A History Of Excellence A Future Of Leadership

Deep Roots, Deeper Commitment.

The end of World War II brought great opportunity to the Mims family. With the country shifting from a wartime to a peacetime economy and the Federal Government’s needing to dispose of vast quantities of armament production equipment, vehicles, and wartime material surplus, the Mims family started a business which bought and sold machine tools – Texas Tool Traders. Although only a teenager at the time, Warren “Bubba” Mims would eventually assume sole responsibility for the moving and transport of the machinery and equipment purchased and resold by his family business.

1957

It was at this time that Able Machinery Movers was born. The new company handled both related party and third party relocations and focused specifically on the movement and installation aspects of the machinery industry, including over-the-road transportation. As the years passed, the company de-emphasized long-distance equipment transport, which became more competitive and less profitable with deregulation of the trucking industry.

Mr. Mims sold majority ownership in the company. Two of the new owners, Mr. David Krieger and Mr. Gene Mason, had collectively worked for Able for over 45 years by that time! Mason officially retired at the end of 2016 to spend more time with family and to travel. Krieger continues to lead the Able team.

Founded more than 60 years ago, Able has expanded significantly in recent years. The company completed two acquisitions – Diamond E Rigging in 2020 and LL Rigging in 2021 – and broadened its geographic reach into the Austin and San Antonio markets while doubling the size of its team. Able’s president, David Krieger, who has led the company for more than 20 years, spearheaded these expansions, and he will now step into the role of vice chairman to focus entirely on the company’s strategic direction and growth initiatives.
